How we think about accessibility
We have applied the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 in the development of this website. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user friendly for everyone.
The guidelines have three levels of accessibility: A, AA and AAA. The target for this website is level AA.
Accessible formats
Cambridge now publishes the majority of its new titles, and many older titles, in accessible ebook formats either for individual buyers or on platforms suitable for institutions. Where a work is unavailable in a suitable format, we welcome enquiries from both individuals and institutions to provide one. More information, and an accessibility request form, can be found on our rights and permissions pages. We aim to respond to requests within seven working days.
Using our website
Magnification Magnify text using your keyboard’s CTRL and + keys. The text will adjust to fit the page. The in-built zoom functions in a web browser can also be used (-; 100%; +).
Text and background colours In-built browser functions can be used to adjust both text and background colours. These options can usually be found in the menu under either Tools, Settings, Options, Content or Reading view, depending on the browser.
Browser plugins (for example, the Theme font & size changer option for Firefox) or third party tools (for example, ATbar) can also be helpful.
Text to speech Text to speech has been tested on Author Hub with a range of browser plugins and third-party tools – for example ClaroRead for Chrome. Select text and click Play to hear it read out. Various settings (for example, speed of reading, voice and accent) can easily be adjusted.
PDF downloads Web browsers have built-in PDF functionality so that you can easily open PDF files in your browser. To download content in PDF format you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader or another PDF reader.
Compatible tools We have tested our platform with the following assistive technology tools:
- keyboard only
- NonVisual Desktop Access screen reader
- Job Access With Speech
- The iOS tool, VoiceOver
- Adobe Read Out Loud
- various text-to-speech software programs.
Browser support This website has been tested across different platforms and browsers. It is optimised for modern browsers including Microsoft Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Google Chrome. Older browsers may offer limited functionality.
Mobile device support This website is responsive: it reorganises itself to the screen size and orientation of the device being used to view it. We test the experience on the most popular devices.
